ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:CONNECTORS/PLUGS/RECEPTACLES

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017-2018 C Evolution motorcycles. The front wheel may splash water onto the electrical plug connection of the DC/DC converter's 12V battery ground cable lug, resulting in corrosion of the electrical contacts.

Risk: Corrosion on the electrical contacts may cause overheating, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the cable section with the ground cable lug with a repair cable kit, free of charge. In addition, the 12V plug connector to the DC/DC converter will be checked; if contact corrosion is found to be present, additional sections of the wiring harness will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 6, 2026. The repair is free at any franchised dealer of your brand.

WHEELS:RIM

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017 BMW C650 GT and BMW C Evolution scooters for failing to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and rims-other than passenger cars." The front rims may not be marked with the required rim type and the DOT designation.

Risk: Since the rim is not marked with the rim size and the DOT designation, a tire of the incorrect size may be installed on this rim, affecting the handling of the scoter and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace any rims that are not correctly marked, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 26, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. The repair is free at any franchised dealer of your brand.
