What's wrong?

The steel wheel's disc is the center section that connects the outer rim to the vehicle's hub. Vent holes are formed around that disc as part of the manufacturing process. On the affected 2026 Sierra EV and Silverado EV vehicles, the recall covers specific steel spare wheels. It also covers specific steel road wheels on the Silverado EV.

The supplier uses a piercing and shaping process to form the outer ring of each vent hole. That process was not adjusted correctly on wheels from the suspect production lots, leaving hairline cracks around the holes. Repeated stress on the wheel can make those cracks spread through the disc. Continued cracking can result in the wheel disc separating. Replacement wheels do not contain discs from those suspect lots.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner should not expect a visible symptom or a change in how the vehicle drives before the crack progresses.

Who's affected?

What's the safety risk?

A cracked wheel can separate at the disc, causing loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash. Drive cautiously and contact a GMC dealer to ask when the inspection is ready. Repair will be free at any franchised GMC dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2026 Sierra EV or Silverado EV is included in this recall.
  2. Wait for GMC's owner notification before scheduling the repair.
  3. Contact a franchised GMC dealer to schedule the free inspection and replacement of any steel wheel that has cracked at the disc vent holes.
  4. Bring the recall notice if you received one, or reference recall number 26V496 when you call.

What happens at the repair

The final dealer repair is not available yet. Once it opens, a GMC technician will inspect the steel wheels and replace any affected wheels. Parts and labor will be free under the recall. All covered vehicles are under warranty, so prior related repairs are handled through existing warranty coverage rather than a separate reimbursement program. Ask the service desk how that coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
