Recall 26V489 affects 47,587 2021-2026 Ford F-150 and F-250 Sd trucks for obstructed rearview-camera images. Free repair once Ford opens it.
Ford is recalling 47,587 2021-2026 F-150 and F-250 Sd vehicles with 8-inch SYNC screens because a software error can let the infotainment home screen block the rearview camera image in reverse. Reduced rear visibility increases crash risk, and the Ford dealer repair will be free once Ford opens the remedy.

What's wrong?
The Accessory Protocol Interface Module, or APIM, is the SYNC 4 computer that controls what appears on the 8-inch infotainment screen in affected 2021-2026 Ford F-150 and F-250 Sd trucks. When you shift into reverse, that screen is supposed to show the rearview camera image clearly so you can see behind the truck while backing up.
On these trucks, APIM software prior to version 2.4.12 does not always clear the camera views menu after certain driver inputs. If a camera view is opened before reverse, the camera views menu can stay on the screen after the shift into reverse. That menu can cover part of the rearview image, including an area Ford identified as required for rear visibility compliance.
There is no warning sign before failure. You notice the problem only when reverse is selected and the camera menu remains over the rearview image instead of closing.
Who's affected?
Covers F-150 and F-250 Sd pickups across 2021-2026, tied to the same Sync 4 module and back-over-prevention display software. VIN search opened on July 31, 2026.

What's the safety risk?
An obstructed rearview camera image can reduce rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash while backing up. Until the software update is available, use mirrors and look over your shoulder before reversing. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2026 Ford F-150 or F-250 Sd is included in this recall.
- Watch for Ford's interim letter, then the repair letter when the APIM software update is ready.
- Call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with questions and reference recall number 26V489 (Ford recall 26C37).
- Use extra care when backing up until the update is complete. Check mirrors and surroundings because the home screen menu can obstruct the rearview camera image.
- Schedule the free APIM software update with a franchised Ford dealer or complete the Ford OTA update once Ford opens the remedy for your VIN.
What happens at the repair
The final fix is not open yet. Once Ford releases it, a Ford technician will update the APIM software at the dealer, or Ford will send the update over the air. That update is meant to keep the rearview camera image from being covered by the SYNC home screen menu when reverse is selected. The final remedy will be free once available. If you already paid for a related software repair, Ford used its general reimbursement plan on file, so keep your repair documentation and ask Ford customer service or the dealer how to submit it.

What is recall 26V489?
Recall 26V489 covers 47,587 2021-2026 Ford F-150 and F-250 Sd trucks with 8-inch SYNC screens. A software error can let the infotainment home screen block the rearview camera image in reverse. Ford will update the APIM software for free.
What should I do if my 2021-2026 Ford F-150 or F-250 Sd is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 26V489. If it is, contact a franchised Ford dealer and ask about the APIM software update. Ford says the update will be completed by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Ford says the APIM software update will be free. The update will be completed by a franchised Ford dealer or through an over-the-air update.
What is the safety risk in recall 26V489?

When will Ford notify owners about recall 26V489?
Ford expects to mail interim owner letters on August 17, 2026, to explain the safety risk. Ford expects to send additional letters once the remedy is available, anticipated in September 2026. VINs became searchable on July 31, 2026.
