What's wrong?
The Xantrex 3000 watt inverter in these 2020-2026 Midwest Automotive Design recreational vehicles converts stored battery power so cabin electrical equipment can run away from shore power. Its DC ground cable gives that electrical current a safe return path and helps the system handle load without excess heat.
On affected vehicles, a manufacturing error left the inverter with a 2/0 DC ground cable instead of the required 4/0 DC ground cable. That cable is undersized for the intended inverter installation. When the inverter powers electrical components, the ground cable can overheat, which can disrupt the equipment connected to the inverter and create a fire risk.
Owners can notice inverter-powered electrical components acting incorrectly. A hot electrical smell is a warning sign. If heat continues to build, occupants can see smoke or flames.
Who's affected?
VINs become searchable on June 22, 2026; until then, the VIN-by-VIN list is not public. The scope spans multiple Midwest Automotive Design conversion-van lines, all tied to the same inverter wiring.
