What's wrong?
The brake pedal in the 2025 Ford Transit connects to the brake booster pushrod through a small retaining setup that includes a cotter pin. The booster pushrod transfers pedal movement into the brake booster, which helps build hydraulic braking force when the driver presses the pedal. That connection has to stay locked together for the pedal to control the brake system.
On affected Transit vans, the brake booster assembly was built without the cotter pin, and a later step that should have caught the missing pin did not identify it. Without that pin and the redundant retainer clip in place, the pushrod can disconnect from the brake pedal. If that happens, pressing the pedal no longer applies the brakes as intended, causing a loss of brake function.
There is no warning sign before failure. A Ford dealer inspection is needed to confirm whether the cotter pin and retainer clip are installed correctly.

- Arrange a tow if the van has to be moved to a Ford dealer; do not drive it there yourself.

- Bring the owner letter if Ford mailed one, and reference recall number 26V090 when you call.
What happens at the repair
Do not drive the Transit until the brake booster remedy is complete. When the final dealer repair is available, a Ford technician will inspect the brake booster assembly and repair the brake booster or related pushrod connection as needed. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Ford uses its standard reimbursement plan for owners who already paid for a related brake booster repair before the recall notice. Bring repair invoices, payment records, and any Ford service paperwork to the dealer or contact Ford customer service to ask how to submit the claim.
