What's wrong?
The side curtain air bag on a 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade is the long air bag mounted above the side windows. In a side crash or rollover, it drops down along the glass to help keep occupants, including people in the rear seat area, inside the SUV. This recall focuses on protection for people seated in the third row.
On affected Palisades, the curtain air bag system does not provide enough overall protection at the third-row outboard seating positions, the seats closest to the side windows. Hyundai traced the issue to the way the quarter panel window and nearby headliner areas work with the air bag during an ejection-mitigation test. In testing, the headform moved farther than the federal limit, which means the system does not meet FMVSS 226 for keeping an occupant's head contained during a crash.
You will not feel this defect while driving. There is no warning sign before failure, because the problem shows up only when the curtain air bag deploys in a crash.

Repair will be free at any franchised Hyundai dealer once available.

What happens at the repair
The final repair is still under development, so Hyundai has not released dealer work instructions for the side curtain air bags. Interim owner letters were mailed beginning March 13, 2026, and Hyundai will send another letter once the final remedy is available. When the repair opens, a Hyundai technician will perform the approved air bag remedy free under the recall. If you paid out of pocket to correct the recall condition before the final remedy, Hyundai's reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Keep invoices and repair paperwork for the claim process.
