What's wrong?
The cast product ladder bracket lock assembly on these Spartan Fire Star Series, Legend Series, and Ust Body emergency vehicles holds the ground ladders in place on the side of the vehicle or on a ladder rack. The locking handle and threaded rod clamp the bracket so the ladders stay secured while the vehicle is driven or staged at a scene.
On affected vehicles, improper installation of the ladder lock handle assembly leaves the handle at risk of detaching from the bracket. Once the handle is loose or missing, the bracket no longer retains the ladders as designed. A ground ladder can fall from the emergency vehicle, which creates a roadway or scene hazard.
The warning sign is visible at the ladder lock assembly. Look for a loose handle, a handle that does not sit correctly, or a missing handle where the ladder bracket should lock.
Who's affected?
Star Series, Legend Series, and Ust Body vehicles are tied to the same ladder bracket lock assembly.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Spartan Fire technician will inspect the ladder lock rod and handle, then replace the rod and handle as necessary. The final dealer repair will be free once Spartan Fire opens it; do not assume the final repair appointment is available before the recall status changes. Spartan Fire used its general reimbursement plan on file, so owners who already paid for this ladder lock repair should submit receipts and repair documentation through Spartan Fire customer service.
