2021-2025 Volvo Multi-Model Recall 25V908: Rear Camera

Recall 25V908 covers 413,151 2021-2025 Volvo vehicles for rearview camera software that can fail in reverse. Free repair once Volvo makes it available.

Volvo is recalling 413,151 2021-2025 XC40, XC90, XC60, S60, S90, V60, V90, C40BEV, EC40, and EX40 vehicles because the rearview camera image can fail to display in reverse. That reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and raises crash risk; the dealer repair will be free once Volvo makes it available.

RecallNotify doesn't check your VIN — NHTSA's official tool does. We use your email only to alert you to new recalls.

What's wrong?

The rearview camera system on affected 2021-2025 Volvo vehicles uses a camera at the back of the vehicle and software in the infotainment system to show what is behind you when reverse is selected. That image is part of the rear visibility system, so the center display has to receive and render the camera feed quickly during a backing event.

On these vehicles, the failure is in the software path that sets up the camera link and draws the image on the center display. The camera feed does not load correctly, or the display system does not render it in time. When that happens, the vehicle is in reverse but the driver does not get the rearview image.

The warning sign is shown on the center display. If the image is not available while backing up, the screen displays "Camera is temporarily not available."

Who's affected?

VINs have been searchable since February 16, 2026.

2024 Volvo XC40 Software
2023 Volvo S60 Software

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the rearview camera image does not display, the driver's view behind the vehicle is reduced, which increases the risk of a crash while backing up. The center display shows "Camera is temporarily not available" when the image is unavailable. Check behind the vehicle before reversing. Repair will be free at any franchised Volvo dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2025 Volvo XC40, V90, C40BEV, S90, V90CC, XC60, S60, V60, V60CC, XC90, EC40, or EX40 is included in this recall.
  2. Wait for Volvo's remedy notice before scheduling the final software update; the dealer or OTA repair will be free once opened.
  3. Contact a franchised Volvo dealer if the rearview camera screen fails in reverse and ask whether interim service guidance applies.
  4. Reference recall number 25V908 and Volvo recall R10333 when you call Volvo or the dealer.
  5. Use extra care when backing up until the software update is complete. Check mirrors and the area behind the vehicle before reversing.

What happens at the repair

Volvo has not opened the final software remedy yet. Once available, a Volvo technician will install the software update at the dealer, or Volvo will send it as an over-the-air update. Parts, labor, and the software update are free under the recall. Vehicles repaired under recall 25V282 still need this new remedy. If you already paid for this repair before receiving the owner letter, contact the Volvo Customer Care Center to ask about reimbursement for that prior repair.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 25V908?

Recall 25V908 covers 413,151 2021-2025 Volvo vehicles with rearview camera software that can fail to show the image when reverse is selected. That reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases crash risk. Volvo's remedy is a free software update by a dealer or over-the-air update.

What should I do if my 2021-2025 Volvo V90CC, XC40, S60, XC90, XC60, S90, V60, V60CC, V90, C40BEV, EC40, or EX40 is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 25V908. If it is, contact a franchised Volvo dealer and ask whether the software update is open for your VIN. Reference recall number 25V908 or Volvo recall number R10333 when you call.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Volvo will provide the software update free of charge through a franchised Volvo dealer or through an over-the-air update when that path applies to your vehicle.

What is the safety risk?

The risk is reduced rear visibility while backing up. If the camera image does not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, the driver has less view behind the vehicle, which increases crash risk. Use mirrors and direct visual checks until the update is complete.

What if my Volvo was repaired under recall 25V282?

You still need the new remedy if your VIN is included in recall 25V908. Volvo says this recall replaces 25V282, and vehicles previously repaired under 25V282 need the new software remedy performed.
