Recall 25V860 affects 32,160 2022-2025 Ford E-Transit vehicles for rear half shaft disengagement. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
Ford is recalling 32,160 2022-2025 E-Transit vans because the left rear axle half shaft can partially disengage from the power drive unit, causing loss of drive power. The defect raises crash risk and can allow a rollaway if the parking brake is not applied; Ford dealers will complete the repair free once Ford makes the remedy available.

What's wrong?
The rear left half shaft on a 2022-2025 Ford E-Transit is the axle shaft that carries power from the electric drive unit to the left rear wheel. The power drive unit turns the shaft, and the shaft transfers that force to move the van. That connection depends on the shaft being fully seated in the drive unit.
On affected E-Transit vans, the half shaft was not fully inserted during assembly because the production checks did not use enough insertion and retention force. When the shaft starts short of full engagement, the splines inside the connection wear over time. As that wear progresses, the shaft can partially disengage from the power drive unit, causing loss of drive power. Ford also linked this condition to loss of park secure ability.
The warning sign Ford identified is a seal leak from the rear left-hand axle shaft. You can see fluid around the left rear axle area, or a technician can spot it during inspection.

What's the safety risk?
Loss of drive power increases crash risk. If the rear left axle half shaft is not fully engaged, the vehicle can roll away when the parking brake is not applied, creating crash or injury risk. Watch for a seal leak from the rear left hand axle shaft and schedule dealer inspection soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2022-2025 Ford E-Transit is included in this recall.
- Review Ford's owner letter mailed April 3, 2026, or call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 if you did not receive it.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer and ask whether the free rear half shaft and power drive unit inspection is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 25V860 and Ford recall 25SD9 when you call.
- Apply the parking brake every time you park until the repair is complete; the half shaft issue can cause loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway.
What happens at the repair
Ford has not opened the final dealer repair yet. Once it is available, a Ford technician will inspect the rear half shaft and the power drive unit, then replace the rear half shaft or related power drive unit parts that need replacement. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Ford used its general reimbursement plan on file, so if you already paid for a related repair before the recall notice, ask Ford customer service or the dealer how to submit documentation for reimbursement.
