What's wrong?
The B-pillar door trim on the 2017-2019 Ford Flex is the black applique at the rear edge of each front door, beside the window opening. It covers and finishes the pillar area, and it is supposed to stay bonded to the door sheet metal while the vehicle moves through wind, vibration, and door use.
On affected Flex vehicles, the trim was not held consistently against the door during production. Ford traced the problem to extra outward force from the locator feature on the front driver door trim and inconsistent hand-roller use during installation, which reduced how well the adhesive tape bonded. Over time, that weak bond lets the trim lift from the top of the front door and detach while driving.
You can see the warning sign before the part comes off. Look for the B-pillar trim separating at the top of the front doors, or listen for new wind noise or rattling while driving.

What's the safety risk?
B-pillar trim that separates while driving can fall into the road and create a crash risk for other drivers. Watch for trim pulling away from the top of the front doors, wind noise, or rattling while driving. Schedule the repair when Ford opens the final remedy. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.

What happens at the repair
The final dealer repair is not open yet. Once Ford releases it, a Ford technician will inspect the driver and front passenger B pillar trim and repair or replace trim that can detach while driving. The final repair, including parts and labor, will be free under the recall. Ford uses its standard reimbursement plan for this campaign, so documented out of pocket repairs tied to this issue are handled through that plan.
