What's wrong?
The pack contactor in the 2025-2026 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y is a high voltage switch inside the battery pack. It closes when the vehicle needs drive power and opens when the high voltage system needs to shut off. In normal operation, that switch lets battery power flow to the propulsion system when the driver selects drive.
On affected vehicles, the contactor was built with an InTiCa solenoid, the electromagnetic part that moves the switch. Tesla traced the defect to a poor coil termination connection inside that solenoid. If that connection opens, the contactor opens suddenly and the vehicle loses propulsion.
There is no warning sign before failure. After drive power is lost, the driver receives a visual alert on the vehicle interface with an instruction to pull safely to the side of the road.
Who's affected?
Covers Model 3 and Model Y from the 2025 and 2026 model years, both using the same pack contactor in the electric propulsion system.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included in this recall.
What's the safety risk?
Loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before propulsion is lost. When torque is no longer available, the vehicle shows an alert telling the driver to pull over safely. Repair is free at any franchised Tesla dealer.
