What's wrong?

The electric drive module in the 2024-2025 Ram Promaster battery electric van is the hardware that turns battery power into motion at the drive wheels. Its control software is supposed to manage motor torque, which is the twisting force sent through the drivetrain. That force has to stay within the limits the differential housing can handle.

On affected vans, the Motor Control Processor software does not effectively limit sudden torque spikes. Those spikes can damage the differential housing inside the electric drive module. If the housing breaks, the drive system can lose propulsion, so pressing the accelerator no longer moves the van as expected. The remedy reprograms the MCP, BPCM, IDCM, and eVCU, and the dealer inspects the electric drive module and replaces it if needed.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner should not count on a warning light, noise, or change in pedal response before loss of drive power.

Who's affected?

Covers the 2024 and 2025 Promaster model years using the same electric drive module software.

What's the safety risk?

A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before failure, so treat any loss of propulsion as a reason to get out of traffic, stop safely, and call a Ram dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Ram dealer once available.

What happens at the repair

The technician will also inspect the electric drive module and replace it if needed. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. If you already paid for related electric drive module or software work before the recall notice, ask Ram service or Chrysler customer service about reimbursement under the manufacturer's standard plan and keep your repair paperwork.
