2024-2025 Mci D45CRTE/J4500E Recall 25V632: Battery Short

Recall 25V632 affects 12 2024-2025 Mci D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, and J4500E coaches for high-voltage battery short circuits. Park outside. Free repair once Mci opens it.

Mci is recalling 12 2024-2025 D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, and J4500E coaches because the high voltage battery can short circuit inside a battery module when charging near or full capacity. A battery short circuit increases the risk of a fire, and the dealer repair will be free once Mci opens the final remedy.

What's wrong?

The HV Battery on affected 2024-2025 Mci D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, and J4500E coaches stores the energy that powers the electric propulsion system. These coaches use Freudenberg Gen 3 HE high voltage batteries, and coaches outside this recall do not have that battery type. During normal operation, the battery modules hold and release high voltage power while the coach monitors battery temperature and system status.

The problem is inside the battery module. Mci says the high voltage battery can develop a short circuit or another battery cell fault when charging to near or full capacity. The precise cause of the battery cell short circuit is still unknown, so the failure difference is set to be updated in an amended filing.

If the coach is powered on, the driver display shows temperature warnings before the issue progresses. If the coach is powered off, visible smoke from the affected battery is the warning sign to watch for.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific bus.

What's the safety risk?

A short circuit in the high voltage battery increases the risk of a fire. If the vehicle is powered on, watch for battery temperature warnings on the driver display. If it is parked, treat visible smoke near the battery as a safety signal. Park outside and away from structures, and keep charging at 75% or less until the recall repair is complete. Repair will be free at any franchised Mci dealer once Mci opens it.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2024-2025 Mci D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, or J4500E coach is included in this recall.
  2. Wait for Mci's second owner letter before scheduling the battery replacement; the final repair is not open yet.
  3. Park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.
  4. Limit charging to 75% capacity or less until the battery replacement is complete.
  5. Call Mci customer service at 1-800-241-2947 with questions and reference recall number 25V632 when you call.

What happens at the repair

Until the final repair is available, Mci's interim guidance is to park outside, park away from structures, and avoid charging above 75% capacity. Once the remedy opens, an Mci technician will replace the high voltage batteries free of charge. Parts and labor are covered under recall 25V632. Mci uses its standard reimbursement plan for this campaign. If you already paid for a battery repair tied to this recall, contact Mci customer service and ask what documentation is needed for a reimbursement claim.
