What's wrong?
The HCP software in the 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV helps manage the hybrid propulsion system. It reads signals from the Battery Pack Control Module, which monitors the high-voltage battery pack, then helps coordinate electric and engine drive power. That software path has to stay synchronized for the vehicle to keep moving normally.
On affected Grand Cherokee PHEV vehicles, the Battery Pack Control Module microprocessor becomes overloaded and resets. During that reset, the Hybrid Control Processor reads a signal from the battery module the wrong way. When that happens, the propulsion system can lose drive power instead of continuing to deliver power to the wheels.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver should not rely on a warning light, sound, or change in feel to know the software fault is about to happen.

What's the safety risk?
A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before the power loss, so take any sudden loss of propulsion seriously and move out of traffic if it happens. Schedule the software update soon. Repair is free at any franchised Jeep dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Jeep technician updates the hybrid control processor software to correct the control error tied to loss of drive power. The software update and labor are free under the recall. If you already paid yourself for this software update or a related hybrid control processor repair before the recall notice, Jeep's standard reimbursement plan covers documented expenses.
