Recall 25V512 covers 103,174 2023-2025 Ford F-150 trucks for rear axle hub bolt fatigue. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 103,174 2023-2025 F-150 trucks equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package because a rear axle hub bolt can fatigue and break. Damaged axle hub splines can let the truck roll away in park without the parking brake applied or cause loss of drive power; the Ford dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The rear axle shaft assembly on the 2023-2025 Ford F-150 sends power from the rear differential out to the wheel end. On trucks with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package, the 9.75-inch heavy duty axle uses a 3/4 float design. The hub bolt clamps the wheel-end hub to the axle shaft. The splines are matching ridges that let the parts turn together without slipping.
On affected trucks, tiny movement between the hub splines and axle shaft splines creates fretting, which is metal wear from repeated rubbing. The worn particles can corrode and expand, which speeds up the wear. Over time, the rear axle hub bolt can fatigue and break. Once that happens, the hub splines can strip and the wheel end no longer transfers load as designed.
Owners can hear a clicking noise as the rear axle hub bolt loosens. If the bolt breaks, a rattle noise can follow because the bolt head stays trapped inside the wheel center cap.
Who's affected?
Covers 2023, 2024, and 2025 F-150 pickups with the same right-hand rear axle shaft assembly.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
Damaged rear axle hub splines can let the F-150 roll away while parked without the parking brake, or cause loss of drive power, increasing crash risk. Use the parking brake every time you park and treat clicking or rattling from the rear wheel area as a reason to call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2023-2025 Ford F-150 is included in this recall.
- Watch for Ford's owner letter if you have not received it; Ford mailed owner letters on August 22, 2025.
- Contact your nearest franchised Ford dealer and ask when your recall phase opens for the free rear axle shaft assembly replacement that addresses rear axle hub bolt fatigue.
- Reference recall number 25V512 when you call Ford or the dealer.
- Apply the parking brake every time you park until the axle repair is complete.
What happens at the repair
Because this recall is being handled in phases, do not assume the final repair is open for every included truck at the same time. Once Ford opens your phase, a Ford technician will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies. The final dealer repair will be free once available for your phase, with parts and labor covered under the recall. Ford uses its general reimbursement plan for this campaign. If you already paid for a related rear axle repair before the recall notice, ask Ford customer service or the dealer how to submit repair documentation under that plan.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 25V512?
Recall 25V512 covers 103,174 2023-2025 Ford F-150 vehicles with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package, a 9.75-inch heavy duty axle, and a 3/4 float axle design. The rear axle hub bolt can break, damaging hub splines. Ford dealers will replace both rear axle shaft assemblies for free.
What should I do if my 2023-2025 Ford F-150 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 25V512. If it is, contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule replacement of the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies. Reference Ford recall number 25S82 when you call. The dealer repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Ford says dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies free of charge. Use a franchised Ford dealer, even if you bought the truck from another seller.
What is the safety risk?
Damaged axle hub splines can let the truck roll away while parked if the parking brake is not applied, or cause a loss of drive power. Either condition increases crash risk. If your VIN is included, use the parking brake and schedule the free dealer repair.
What if I bought my Ford F-150 used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific F-150 is included, then call a franchised Ford dealer and reference recall 25V512 or Ford recall number 25S82.
