What's wrong?
The SmartPlug 30A inlet on the 2023 Storyteller Overland Mode Lt is the exterior shore power connection. It is the socket where the shore power cord plugs into the recreational vehicle, letting outside electrical power feed the onboard electrical system when the vehicle is parked. The inlet has to be tightened to the proper torque so the plug and wiring stay firmly seated.
On affected Mode Lt vehicles, the inlet was not tightened to specification during installation. A loose or uneven connection lets heat build at the plug area instead of keeping the connection stable. Storyteller Overland traced the problem to vehicles built after January 1, 2023, where several inlets showed discoloration, heat warping, or burn marks.
The warning sign is heat-induced discoloration on the plastic near the plug or on the shore power cord. A warped inlet cover, darkened plastic, or burn mark around the connection is a reason to stop using shore power until the vehicle is inspected.
