What's wrong?
The secondary alternator controller on the 2023-2026 Tiffin GH1, GT1, Convoy, and GH2 motorhomes manages when the extra alternator charges the coach batteries. That alternator supports the motorhome's electrical load separate from normal chassis charging. The controller is supposed to keep charging demand away from idle conditions on the 2.0 liter Mercedes Benz chassis.
On these motorhomes, the controller programming was not updated after Mercedes Benz moved from the earlier 3.0 liter V6 chassis to the newer 2.0 liter engine. When the coach batteries are low, the secondary alternator can turn on while the engine is idling or running at or below 1200 RPM. That charging load pulls power away from the engine, which can cause loss of throttle response and an engine stall at idle.
There is no warning sign before failure. The issue can appear when the batteries are low and the engine is at idle or low speed.
