What's wrong?
The brake control module software on the 2021, 2024 Polestar 2 helps manage brake pressure and brake support functions. It works with the service brake system while the car blends regenerative slowing from "One Pedal Drive" with the hydraulic brakes. The software has to keep brake pressure available even when the driver is coasting and neither pedal is pressed.
On affected Polestar 2 vehicles, a software change can block brake pressure buildup in a specific situation: coasting downhill in "One Pedal Drive" with no accelerator pedal and no brake pedal applied. After at least 1 minute and 30 seconds in that condition, the vehicle can lose braking functionality. The related brake support functions are also affected.
There is no warning sign before failure. The first thing an owner notices is the brake function loss itself after the downhill coasting condition has already occurred.
Who's affected?
The VIN list has been searchable since June 24, 2025; the included 2021 and 2024 vehicles are tied to brake control module software.

What's the safety risk?
A loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash. This recalled condition involves loss of braking functionality after coasting downhill with "One Pedal Drive" active and no brake-pedal use. There is no warning before the fault occurs, so avoid using "One Pedal Drive" until the software repair is complete. Repair is free at any franchised Polestar dealer.

What happens at the repair
Polestar has released a free OTA software update for the brake control issue. Until that update is installed and the repair is complete, do not use "One Pedal Drive." The update changes the vehicle software tied to One Pedal Drive operation during coasting. Parts are not listed because the remedy is software, and the recall fix is free. If you already paid for this repair before receiving the owner letter mailed July 18, 2025, contact Polestar Customer Support and reference RP1061 to ask about reimbursement eligibility.

What should I do if my 2021 or 2024 Polestar 2 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 25V409. If it is, do not use One Pedal Drive until the free Polestar over-the-air software update has been completed. Reference recall number RP1061 when you contact Polestar or a franchised Polestar service center.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Polestar released the over-the-air software update free of charge. Parts and labor are covered if a Polestar service center needs to help complete the update.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is loss of brake function while coasting downhill with One Pedal Drive active, which increases crash risk. Until the update is complete, follow Polestar's instruction not to use One Pedal Drive and rely on normal braking controls.
When did Polestar notify owners?
Polestar mailed owner notification letters on July 18, 2025. A missed letter does not decide whether the recall applies, especially if the vehicle changed owners. Check your VIN, then ask Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 or a Polestar service center about recall RP1061.
