What's wrong?
The Brake Control Module software in these 2020-2026 Volvo vehicles controls how the braking system builds pressure when the driver asks the vehicle to slow down. In plug-in hybrids, that includes B mode; in battery-electric models, that includes One Pedal Drive. The brake system still depends on hydraulic pressure to provide normal stopping force.
On vehicles with the recalled software, the module blocks brake pressure build up during a specific coasting condition. The risk happens while coasting downhill with B mode or One Pedal Drive active and without pressing the brake pedal. In that condition, the vehicle can lose brake function, and brake support functions are also affected.
Owners do not get an advance alert before the fault occurs. There is no warning sign before failure, but the problem is tied to coasting downhill for at least 1 minute and 30 seconds with those modes active.

What's the safety risk?
Loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash. This fault can occur after coasting downhill for at least 1 minute and 30 seconds with "B" Mode or "One Pedal Drive" active and without using the brake pedal. There is no warning before it happens, so avoid those modes until the software update is complete. Repair is free at any franchised Volvo dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm whether your 2020-2026 Volvo XC40BEV, XC90PHEV, XC60PHEV, C40BEV, EC40, EX40, XC40, S60PHEV, S90PHEV, or V60PHEV is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Volvo dealer to schedule the free brake-module software update that fixes brake loss during downhill coasting in B Mode or One Pedal Drive.
- Avoid B Mode and One Pedal Drive until the software repair is complete.
- Bring the recall notice if Volvo mailed it, and reference recall number 25V392 when you call or arrive.
- Call Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552 with questions about the OTA update or dealer repair.
What happens at the repair
Until the repair is complete, do not use "B" Mode in plug-in hybrid vehicles or "One Pedal Drive" in pure electric vehicles. The brake module software update is free. Volvo can send the update OTA, or a Volvo technician can install it at the dealer. If you paid out of pocket for this brake module repair before receiving the owner letter, contact Volvo Customer Care and ask how to submit documentation for reimbursement.
