What's wrong?
The rear shock absorber on affected 2018-2024 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles controls rear suspension movement as the bike carries rider and passenger weight. Its pre-load adjuster lets the rear suspension be set for weight on the motorcycle, and the adjuster is held in place by a mounting tab near the rear shock and fender.
On these motorcycles, that mounting tab can fracture from fatigue. When the tab breaks, the rear shock pre-load adjuster is no longer held where it belongs. It can move into the area between the shock, rear fender, and rear tire. If it contacts the tire, it can damage the tire and cause a loss of tire pressure.
An operator or passenger can hear noise from under the seat. With the seat removed, a loose rear shock adjuster can be visible. If the adjuster is touching the rear tire, the rider can feel difficulty maneuvering the motorcycle or see unusual wear on the rear tire.

What's the safety risk?
A loose rear shock adjuster that contacts the rear tire can cause sudden tire pressure loss, increasing the risk of a crash. Listen for noise under the seat, difficulty maneuvering, or unusual rear tire wear. If you notice any of these signs, stop riding and call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Harley-Davidson dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2018-2024 Harley-Davidson Flhcs Anv, Flhc, Fxlrs, Fxlrst, Fxrst, Flde, or Flhcs is included in this recall.
- Contact Harley-Davidson customer service or a franchised Harley-Davidson dealer to confirm repair timing for recall number 25V375.
- Schedule the free rear-shock pre-load adjuster bracket repair, which keeps the adjuster from damaging the rear tire and causing sudden tire-pressure loss.
- Bring the recall notice if Harley-Davidson mailed one, and mention Harley-Davidson recall 0188 when you call or arrive.
- Ride cautiously until the repair is complete. Stop riding if the rear tire loses pressure or the shock adjuster contacts the tire.
What happens at the repair
Once the repair opens, a Harley-Davidson technician installs a new bracket for the rear shock pre-load adjuster. The final dealer repair will be free once available, and motorcycles that were repaired under recall 23V591 still need this new remedy completed if their VIN is included. Harley-Davidson used its general reimbursement plan on file, so documented out-of-pocket repairs tied to this condition can be reviewed under that plan. Bring prior repair paperwork or receipts to the service desk and ask how to submit the claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 25V375?
Recall 25V375 covers 82,117 2018-2024 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles with a rear shock pre-load adjuster mounting tab that can break. If the adjuster damages the rear tire, tire pressure can drop suddenly and increase crash risk. Dealers will install a new bracket for free.
What should I do if my 2018-2024 Harley-Davidson Softail is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific motorcycle is included in recall 25V375. If it is, contact a franchised Harley-Davidson dealer to schedule the bracket installation. Reference Harley-Davidson recall number 0188 when you call. The dealer repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Harley-Davidson dealers will install the new rear shock pre-load adjuster bracket free of charge, including parts and labor.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is a sudden loss of rear tire pressure. The rear shock absorber adjuster can damage the rear tire after the mounting tab breaks, and sudden tire pressure loss increases crash risk.
What if my motorcycle was already repaired under recall 23V591?
It still needs to be checked for recall 25V375. Harley-Davidson says some motorcycles previously repaired under recall 23V591 are included again and need the new remedy completed. Check your VIN, then ask the dealer whether recall number 0188 is still open for your motorcycle.
