Recall 25V336 affects 12,244 2024-2025 Mazda MX-5 vehicles for a stability-control indicator software error. Repair is free at any franchised Mazda dealer.
Mazda is recalling 12,244 2024-2025 MX-5 vehicles because a software error can keep the Traction Control System and Dynamic Stability Control indicator light from turning on when it should. Without that warning light, the driver is not alerted to a TCS or DSC system issue, increasing crash risk; the Mazda dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) unit in the 2024-2025 Mazda MX-5 is the control module for the car's stability and traction systems. It reads vehicle motion and wheel behavior, then helps manage engine power and braking when the car begins to slide or lose traction. The instrument-panel TCS/DSC indicator light is supposed to tell the driver when the system detects certain abnormal stability conditions.
On affected MX-5 vehicles, the DSC unit has a software diagnostic programming error. When abnormal yaw rate characteristics are detected, the software fails to trigger the TCS/DSC indicator light as intended. That leaves the stability system's warning light unavailable for that condition, which is why the vehicles do not conform to FMVSS 126.
There is no warning sign before failure. The issue is in the DSC software, so an owner would not hear, feel, or smell a part wearing out before the indicator-light problem occurs.
Who's affected?
The traction-control and electronic-stability-control labels point to the same Dynamic Stability Control unit. VINs became searchable on May 28, 2025.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific car is included.
What's the safety risk?
When the indicator light does not illuminate, the driver loses a dashboard warning for a TCS or DSC system issue. That missing warning increases crash risk because the problem is harder to spot while driving. There is no warning sign before the indicator fault. Schedule the dealer repair soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Mazda dealer once available.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mazda technician will replace the DSC unit that controls the Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control indicators. The final dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under the recall. Mazda used its general reimbursement plan on file, so documented qualifying out-of-pocket DSC-related repairs paid before the recall notice can be reviewed for reimbursement. Keep prior repair invoices and contact Mazda customer service or ask the dealer service desk how to submit them.
