2021-2025 Polestar 2 Recall 25V280: Rear Camera Image

Recall 25V280 covers 27,816 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles because the rearview camera image does not display in reverse. Repair is free at a franchised Polestar dealer.

Polestar is recalling 27,816 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles because the rearview camera image can fail to display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. That missing view reduces what the driver can see behind the vehicle and increases crash risk; Polestar dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The Parking Assist Camera software on 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles is supposed to send the rear camera view to the center display when reverse is selected. The camera and the Infotainment Head Unit work together: the camera captures the rear view, and the head unit receives the video signal and shows it on the screen. That screen image is part of the vehicle's required rear visibility system.

On affected vehicles, Polestar found a synchronization error between the Parking Assist Camera and the Infotainment Head Unit. The video receiving hardware in the head unit also has a synchronization error, and the camera view shown by the system is not the compliant view required when reverse is selected. The result is that the rearview image does not display, or it does not appear as the required view each time the gear selector is placed in reverse.

Owners can see a "Camera is temporarily unavailable" message instead of the rear view. On some affected Polestar 2 vehicles, the center display does not show the rearview camera image by default when reverse is selected.

What's the safety risk?

A rearview camera image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. If reverse shows a camera unavailable message or no rear view, use extra care and schedule the software update soon. Repair is free at any franchised Polestar dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2025 Polestar Polestar 2 is included in this recall.
  2. Contact your nearest franchised Polestar dealer to schedule the free software update that restores rearview camera display in reverse.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Polestar mailed one. If not, reference recall number 25V280 and Polestar recall RP1056 when you call.
  4. Use extra care when reversing until the software update is complete, and check mirrors and surroundings before backing up.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Polestar technician updates the vehicle software so the rearview camera system uses the new recall remedy. The software update is free under the recall. Vehicles already repaired under campaign 24V-477 still need this newer remedy completed, so tell the service desk if your Polestar 2 had that earlier repair. Polestar has a general reimbursement plan on file for documented out-of-pocket repairs tied to this issue. Bring your repair paperwork and receipts to the service desk, or contact Polestar customer service to ask how to submit the claim.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 25V280?

Recall 25V280 covers 27,816 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles with rearview camera software that can fail to show the image when reverse is selected. That reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases crash risk. Polestar dealers will update the vehicle software for free.

What should I do if my 2021-2025 Polestar 2 is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 25V280. If it is, contact a franchised Polestar dealer to schedule the software update. Reference recall number 25V280 and Polestar recall number RP1056 when you call. The repair is free.

Is the Polestar 2 recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Polestar's remedy says dealers will update the vehicle software free of charge at a franchised Polestar dealer.

What is the safety risk with recall 25V280?

The safety risk is reduced rear visibility when backing up. If the rearview camera image does not display after the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the driver has less view of what is behind the vehicle, which increases crash risk under recall 25V280.

What if my Polestar 2 was already repaired under recall 24V-477?

You still need this new remedy if your VIN is included. Polestar says vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-477 need the new software remedy completed under recall 25V280. Ask the dealer to confirm both recall numbers when scheduling the free update.
