What's wrong?
The affected 2021-2024 Cadillac vehicles and related models use GM's 6.2L V8 gas engine. Inside that engine, the crankshaft turns the force from combustion into rotation, while each connecting rod links a piston to the crankshaft so the engine can make power.
In the suspect engines, supplier manufacturing and quality problems left sediment on connecting rods and crankshaft oil galleries, or left crankshafts with dimensions and surface finish outside specification. Those conditions damage the engine bearings, the smooth surfaces that let these parts spin with oil between them. Once bearing damage progresses, the engine can lose propulsion or fail.
Drivers can notice knocking, banging, or other unusual engine noises before failure. The check engine light, hesitation, high RPMs, abnormal shifting, reduced propulsion, or a no-start condition are also warning signs to take seriously.
Who's affected?

What's the safety risk?
Engine failure raises crash risk. Treat knocking, banging, a check engine light, hesitation, high RPMs, abnormal shifting, reduced propulsion, or a no-start condition as a reason to stop using the vehicle and call a Cadillac dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Cadillac dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade Esv, Escalade, Suburban, Yukon Xl, Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, or Silverado 1500 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Cadillac dealer to schedule the free engine inspection and repair for the connecting rod or crankshaft defect.
- Ask the dealer whether your vehicle needs engine repair, engine replacement, or the higher-viscosity oil, oil fill cap, oil filter, and owner manual update.
- Bring the recall notice if Cadillac mailed one. If not, reference recall number 25V274 when you call.
- Drive carefully until the repair is complete, and stop driving if the engine loses power or shows signs of failure.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Cadillac technician inspects the engine for connecting rod or crankshaft damage. If the engine does not pass inspection, the technician repairs or replaces the engine. If it passes, the dealer adds higher viscosity oil, replaces the oil filter, installs the updated oil fill cap, and updates the owner's manual. Parts and labor are free under the recall. GM's reimbursement plan covers eligible prior repairs with documentation. Bring prior engine repair paperwork to the service desk or contact Cadillac customer service to start the claim.
