What's wrong?
The advanced signal and actuator module is part of the automatic emergency braking system on the 2025-2026 Business Class M2, 47X, 49X, 114SD, Cascadia, 108SD, and EM2 vehicles. It helps route electronic commands when the truck applies braking on its own. In normal operation, that command path also tells the brake lamps to illuminate so traffic behind the truck sees that braking is happening.
On affected vehicles without towing provisions, a software parameter in the module is wrong. During a vehicle-induced hard braking event, the automatic emergency braking system can apply the brakes without sending the right electronic signal to the brake lamps. Vehicles with towing provisions have a pneumatic path that still turns the brake lamps on, so this defect is limited to the affected configuration.
There is no warning sign before failure. The driver does not get a dashboard cue that the brake lamps failed to illuminate during automatic emergency braking.
Who's affected?
Covers Business Class M2, 47X, 49X, 114SD, Cascadia, 108SD, and EM2 trucks from the 2025-2026 model years, all using the ASAM 2025 Software Pack for brake-light and automatic emergency braking functions.

What's the safety risk?
NHTSA says brake lights that fail increase the risk of a crash. If your VIN is included, use extra space in traffic and schedule the software update soon. Repair is free at any franchised Freightliner dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2025-2026 Freightliner or Western Star truck is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Freightliner or Western Star dealer to schedule the free automatic-emergency-braking software update that fixes the brake-light illumination error.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 25V187 when you call.
- Drive with extra following distance until the software update is complete, since failed brake lights increase crash risk.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Freightliner technician updates the automatic emergency braking system software so the system can control the brake light signal correctly. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered by the campaign. If you already paid for a related software or brake light repair before the recall notice, seek reimbursement through an authorized Freightliner dealer. Bring repair invoices and payment records so the service desk can review them under DTNA's reimbursement process.
