Nissan is recalling 89 2025 Kicks vehicles under recall 24V969 because the Shift-to-Park warning can fail to activate when the ignition is shut off while the vehicle is still in gear. If the vehicle is not in Park, it can move unexpectedly and raise the risk of a rollaway crash; Nissan dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The body control module on the 2025 Nissan Kicks is an electronic controller that manages cabin and vehicle alerts. One of those alerts is the Shift-to-Park warning. It is supposed to tell the driver when the vehicle is shut off while the gear selector is still in a position other than Park.
On affected Kicks vehicles, that warning was turned off during manufacturing to prevent battery discharge while the vehicle moved through the plant. It was supposed to be turned back on during final inspection. A plant repair process let some vehicles bypass that inspection step, so the body control module left the factory with the Shift-to-Park warning still disabled.
The vehicle does not give a separate warning that this feature is disabled. There is no warning sign before failure. The issue shows up when the vehicle is shut off in Neutral or another non-Park gear and the normal Shift-to-Park alert does not sound or display.

What's the safety risk?
If the Kicks is shut off while it is not in Park, it can move unexpectedly. That creates a rollaway risk and increases crash risk. There is no warning before this happens, so confirm Park before shutting off the ignition. Repair is free at any franchised Nissan dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Nissan technician reconfigures the body control module so the Shift-to-Park warning activates when the 2025 Kicks is shut off while still out of Park. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Nissan is not offering a separate reimbursement program because the affected vehicles are under warranty. If you have prior repair paperwork, ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 24V969?
Recall 24V969 covers 89 2025 Nissan Kicks vehicles where the Shift-to-Park warning does not activate as intended after shutdown when the vehicle is left in a gear other than Park. Nissan dealers will reconfigure the body control module so the warning activates, free of charge.
What should I do if my 2025 Nissan Kicks is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 24V969. If it is, contact a franchised Nissan dealer to schedule the body control module reconfiguration. Reference recall 24V969 or Nissan recall PMA42 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects and noncompliances at no cost to owners. Nissan will reconfigure the body control module free of charge at any franchised Nissan dealer.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is vehicle rollaway. If the ignition is shut off while the Kicks is still in gear, the missing Shift-to-Park warning leaves the vehicle able to move unexpectedly, increasing crash risk. The dealer repair restores the warning function.
