What's wrong?
The fuel filler neck on recalled 2021-2023 Acura Tlx vehicles is the pipe that carries gasoline from the fuel door into the tank. The fuel tank stores that gasoline until the engine draws it through the fuel system. The joint between the neck and the tank has to stay sealed during refueling, driving, and normal body movement.
On these vehicles, the fuel filler neck was loaded into the welding fixture at a tilted angle during fuel tank assembly. That left uneven contact where the neck meets the tank. The weld equipment also used too little melt depth, so the heat weld between the parts was too shallow. A weak weld at that junction can open and let fuel leak from the tank area.
The warning sign is fuel odor inside or outside the vehicle. If you smell gasoline near the cabin, fuel door, or rear underside of the vehicle, treat it as a sign that the tank assembly needs inspection.
