Recall 24V938 covers 2 2023-2024 Volvo C40BEV vehicles for an improperly crimped driver-side air bag module. Repair is free at any franchised Volvo dealer.
Volvo is recalling 2 2023-2024 C40BEV vehicles because clamps on the driver's side inner far side air bag module can be improperly crimped, causing the air bag to deploy improperly. In a crash, that air bag can fail to protect the driver as intended, increasing injury risk; Volvo dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The driver-side inner far side air bag on 2023-2024 Volvo C40BEV vehicles is an air bag module built into the driver front seat. It is meant to inflate during a crash event where that protection is needed, adding a cushion between the driver and the inside of the vehicle.
On affected vehicles, the clamps on the far side air bag module were not crimped correctly. A crimp is the tight mechanical squeeze that locks a clamp in place. Volvo traced the issue to wrong software control settings at the supplier's assembly station, before corrected settings were put in place in October 2024. With the clamp not secured as designed, the air bag can deploy improperly.
There is no warning sign before failure. The owner does not get a light, sound, message, or other indication that the driver seat air bag module has the incorrect clamp crimp.
