What's wrong?
The Bendix EC80 in these 2021-2025 Peterbilt trucks is the electronic control unit for the anti-lock braking system. It reads brake and wheel-speed information, then sends commands that help keep the wheels from locking during hard braking. On trucks built to pull a trailer, it also handles trailer-related electrical messages.
The defect is in how the software handles those trailer communication messages. Electrical noise and a weak signal on the power line carrier can make the EC80 process a command incorrectly or stop working. Bendix traced the problem to message data that exceeds the memory space set aside for it, which can corrupt the unit's software operation.
The warning sign is the ABS warning lamp. It turns on when the system detects an ABS fault or when the ABS stops operating, so treat that lamp as the signal to have the truck checked.

The year and model narrow the group, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
When the ECU software is wrong, Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation System can stop working correctly or stop working at all, increasing crash risk. The ABS warning lamp illuminates when an ABS fault is detected or ABS stops operating. Schedule the software reprogramming soon. Repair is free at any franchised Peterbilt dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2025 Peterbilt vehicle is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer to schedule the free ECU software reprogramming that fixes the command-processing fault in the Bendix EC80 control unit.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 24V915 and Peterbilt recall 24PBL when you call.
- Drive with extra space until the repair is complete because ABS, traction control, stability control, active cruise control, and collision mitigation can fail to work properly.
- Call Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 with questions about scheduling or dealer support.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Peterbilt technician reprograms the ECU software so the Bendix electronic control unit processes commands correctly. Parts and labor are free under recall 24V915. If you already paid out of pocket for ECU software or related electronic control unit work before the recall repair, PACCAR's standard reimbursement plan covers documented eligible expenses. Bring invoices or receipts to the Peterbilt service desk and ask how to submit the claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 24V915?
Recall 24V915 covers 220,764 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles with Bendix EC80 Advanced ECUs. Electrical noise and a low signal to the power line carrier can make the ECU process commands incorrectly or stop working, affecting safety systems tied to traction control, ABS, stability control, cruise control, and collision mitigation.
What should I do if my 2021-2025 Peterbilt or Kenworth vehicle is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 24V915. If it is, contact a franchised Peterbilt or Kenworth dealer to schedule the ECU software reprogramming. Reference recall number 24V915, or PACCAR recall number 24PBL or 24KWL, when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and PACCAR says dealers will reprogram the ECU software free of charge. Parts and labor are covered at a franchised Peterbilt or Kenworth dealer.
What is the safety risk in recall 24V915?
The risk is that ECU-dependent safety systems can stop working properly or at all. That includes Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation System. If those systems are not available when needed, crash risk increases.
When were owners notified about recall 24V915?
Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2025. If you bought the vehicle used or never received a letter, the VIN decides whether this recall applies. Check your VIN, then call a franchised Peterbilt or Kenworth dealer if your vehicle is included.
