Mercedes-Benz is recalling 33,456 2001-2011 C-Class, CLK, E-Class, and CLS vehicles, including the E500, because the glass sunroof panel can detach if it is not properly secured. A detached panel can become a road hazard and increase crash risk, and Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and repair the sunroof panel free of charge.

What's wrong?
The sunroof cover on affected 2001-2011 Mercedes-Benz vehicles is the glass panel assembly above the cabin. It is bonded into the sliding roof structure so it stays fixed while the roof opens, closes, and seals against wind and water. That bond has to hold through heat, vibration, and highway airflow.
On these vehicles, a supplier production deviation affected how the primer was applied or ventilated before the glass was bonded. Primer is the bonding chemical that helps the adhesive grip the glass and roof frame. If that step was wrong, the joint loses strength over time, and the glass panel can loosen or detach from the vehicle.
Owners can notice a panel that looks partly detached or wind noise around the sunroof while driving. Treat either sign as a warning that the adhesive bond has started to fail, and have a Mercedes-Benz dealer inspect the sunroof cover.

What's the safety risk?
A sunroof panel that detaches can become a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash. Watch for a panel that looks partly detached or unusual wind noise near the sunroof while driving. Drive cautiously, schedule the inspection soon, and tell the dealer about any sunroof noise or looseness. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2001-2011 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, CLK, E-Class, or CLS vehicle is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule the free sunroof-panel inspection and replacement, if needed, for the glass panel that can detach.
- Bring the recall notice if Mercedes-Benz mailed one. If not, reference recall number 24V874 when you call.
- Avoid driving under or near the vehicle if the sunroof glass looks loose, raised, or separated before the dealer inspects it.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mercedes-Benz technician inspects the glass sunroof panel and replaces it if it is not properly secured. The recall repair is available now, and parts and labor are free. MBUSA's standard reimbursement plan applies to qualifying repairs paid before the owner notice, since affected vehicles had been previously subject to this condition. If you already paid for a sunroof-panel repair tied to this issue, keep the repair paperwork and ask MBUSA customer service how to submit it for review.
