What's wrong?
The fuel vapor line on the 2024 Ford Ranger carries fuel vapors through the emissions system so they stay contained instead of venting around the truck. A nearby bracket is meant to hold parts in place on other engine versions, but these affected 2.7L Rangers did not need that bracket in this spot.
At the assembly plant, the bracket was installed on some 2.7L trucks in error. With that bracket in place, clearance to the plastic fuel vapor line is too tight. Normal vehicle movement lets the plastic line rub against the metal bracket, and that contact can wear through the line over time. Once the line is breached, fuel vapor escapes from the containment system.
If the fuel vapor line develops a leak, the malfunction indicator light appears in the instrument cluster after 2 repeat engine cycles. You can also notice a fuel odor around the truck.

What's the safety risk?
A fuel vapor leak near an ignition source increases fire risk. The warning signs are a Malfunction Indicator Light after repeated engine cycles and a fuel odor. If either appears, park safely and contact a Ford dealer before continuing routine driving. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?

- Avoid parking near ignition sources if you smell fuel, and tell the dealer about any fuel odor before your appointment.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician inspects the fuel vapor line area for the bracket, then installs a tie strap to secure the fuel vapor line to that bracket. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Ford's standard reimbursement plan covers qualifying out-of-pocket repairs paid before the owner notice. Bring repair invoices and payment records to the service desk, or contact Ford customer service to start the reimbursement request.
