What's wrong?
The transmission control valve body in these 2020-2022 diesel trucks and SUVs directs transmission fluid through the automatic transmission. That fluid pressure tells the transmission when to shift gears and keeps the internal valves moving in the right order. When the valve body works correctly, shifts feel controlled and power stays matched to vehicle speed.
On affected vehicles, excessive wear inside the valve body creates a fluid leak. That leak drops pressure inside the transmission, and certain valves move when they should not. The transmission then commands a harsh downshift, and the rear wheels can lock up.
Drivers can notice harsh shifting before the lock-up condition happens. After the updated control software is installed, the vehicle is designed to detect the condition, shift into fifth gear, turn on the service engine light, and show a reduced propulsion message until the next key cycle.
Who's affected?
