2023 Honda Cr-V Hybrid Recall 24V745: Battery Spark

Recall 24V745 affects 98 2023 Honda Cr-V Hybrid vehicles for high-voltage battery modules that can spark. Repair is free at any franchised Honda dealer.

Honda is recalling 98 2023 Cr-V Hybrid vehicles because incorrectly manufactured high voltage battery modules can cause a battery terminal or busbar to break and spark. An electrical spark increases the risk of injury or fire, and loss of drive power increases crash risk; Honda dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The high-voltage battery module in the 2023 Honda Cr-V Hybrid stores electric power for the hybrid drive system. Inside the module, terminals and a busbar, a metal connector that carries current between battery cells, keep power moving through the pack. Those connections have to stay sealed and intact because each battery cell contains electrolyte.

On affected vehicles, the negative terminal was made with too little remaining copper in part of the terminal tube. During manufacturing, the terminal was pressed onto the battery cell sealing plate, and that thin copper area can fracture. Once aluminum underneath is exposed, it reacts with electrolyte from the cell. That reaction forms a lithium-aluminum alloy, weakens the seal, allows more leakage, and can lead to the terminal or busbar breaking and sparking.

There is no warning sign before failure. A driver is not expected to see a dashboard light, sound, smell, or driveability change before the battery connection fails.

What's the safety risk?

An electrical spark increases the risk of injury or fire. The defect also can cause a loss of drive power, which increases crash risk. If the vehicle loses power while moving, steer out of traffic when safe and call for assistance. Repair is free at any franchised Honda dealer.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 24V745?

Recall 24V745 covers 98 2023 Honda Cr-V Hybrid vehicles with high-voltage battery modules that were manufactured incorrectly. The battery terminal or busbar can break and spark, increasing injury or fire risk. A loss of drive power can also increase crash risk. Honda dealers will replace the battery module for free.

What should I do if my 2023 Honda Cr-V Hybrid is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 24V745. If it is, contact a franchised Honda dealer to schedule the high-voltage battery module replacement. Reference recall number 24V745 or Honda recall number HJR when you call. The dealer repair is free.
