2017-2023 Motiv F-59 Recall 24V699: Wiring Harness

Recall 24V699 affects 13 2017-2023 Motiv F-59 school buses for 12-volt control-wire damage. Repair is free through Motiv field support.

Motiv is recalling 13 2017-2023 F-59 BEV Chassis School Bus and F-59 School Bus vehicles because the wiring harness can lack a heat shrink insulator and retention clip. The defect can let 12-volt control wires deteriorate and loosen, break the connection to the high-voltage batteries, and cause loss of drive power that increases crash risk; Motiv dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

On 2017-2023 Motiv F-59 BEV Chassis School Bus and F-59 School Bus vehicles, the affected wiring harness runs between the fuse box and the master disconnect switch. That harness carries 12-volt control power that lets the high voltage battery system stay connected and supply drive power. In normal operation, the wires are insulated and clipped in place so vibration and movement do not pull on the terminal.

On the recalled buses, the harness was built without the heat shrink insulator and retention clip needed near a ring terminal. Without that protection, the 12-volt control wires can fatigue, crack, and loosen over time. When the connection opens, control power to the high voltage batteries is interrupted and the bus loses propulsion.

There is no warning sign before failure. The operator would not receive an advance warning before the loss of drive power, so the first notice can be the bus no longer responding to the accelerator.
