Recall 24V668 covers 16,890 2020-2025 Freightliner and Western Star trucks for brake-light failure during automatic braking. Free software update at any franchised Freightliner dealer.
Freightliner is recalling 16,890 2020-2025 trucks, including the 114SD, Business Class M2, 108SD, EM2, and Western Star 47X, 49X, and 57X, because brake lights can stay dark when active brake assist automatically applies the brakes. Other drivers lose the slowing signal, which raises crash risk; Freightliner dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
On affected 2020-2025 trucks, the body lighting interface controller is the bridge between the truck's electronic brake signals and replacement brake lights added during upfitting. Active Brake Assist is the automatic braking system that applies the brakes when the truck detects a forward collision risk. The brake lights still need a clear command so traffic behind the truck sees the stop.
The problem is in the XCM parameters, which are software settings for the expansion module controller. DTNA configured that controller to turn on the brake lights only when the service brake switch shows the driver pressed the brake pedal. When Active Brake Assist applies the brakes instead, that logic leaves the replacement brake lights out of the command path.
An owner will not get a dashboard warning for this specific lighting fault. There is no warning sign before failure, because the issue appears only during an Active Brake Assist braking event with the affected upfit lighting setup.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
Brake lights that fail to illuminate leave drivers behind you without a clear signal that the vehicle is slowing down. That increases the risk of a crash. If your VIN is included, schedule the software update soon and drive cautiously until it is complete. Repair is free at any franchised Freightliner dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2020-2025 Freightliner 114SD, Business Class M2, 49X, 57X, 47X, EM2, or 108SD is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Freightliner dealer to schedule the free ABA software update that fixes brake lights failing to illuminate during active brake assist.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 24V668 when you call.
- Call Freightliner customer service at 800-745-8000 with questions about the repair or dealer scheduling.
- Drive with extra following distance until the software update is complete, since other drivers need clear brake-light warning when the truck slows.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Freightliner technician updates the active brake assist software so the brake lights illuminate when ABA applies the brakes. The software update and labor are free under the recall. If you already paid for a related ABA software repair before the recall notice, DTNA's general reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Bring your repair invoice and payment records to the service desk or contact DTNA customer service.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 24V668?
Recall 24V668 covers 16,890 2020-2025 Freightliner and Western Star trucks with brake lights that fail to illuminate during an active brake assist event. That leaves other drivers without a clear slowing signal, increasing crash risk. Freightliner dealers will update the ABA software for free.
What should I do if my 2020-2025 Freightliner or Western Star truck is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 24V668. If it is, contact a franchised Freightliner dealer to schedule the ABA software update. Reference recall 24V668 or DTNA recall F1009 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and DTNA says dealers will update the ABA software free of charge. Use a franchised Freightliner dealer, even if you bought the truck used or from another seller.
What is the safety risk in recall 24V668?
