What's wrong?
The high voltage battery pack in a 2019-2021 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid stores the electricity that helps move the van in electric drive and supports the hybrid propulsion system. Inside the pack, individual battery cells are connected through tabs that carry electrical current. The battery control software watches pack conditions for signs of trouble.
On affected vans, a cell inside the pack was built with a folded or torn anode tab. Chrysler also identified another factor that has not been pinned down. Together, those conditions can create an internal short inside the battery pack. Heat then builds where it does not belong, and the pack can start a vehicle fire even when the van is parked with the ignition off.
There is no warning sign before failure. You should not count on a warning light, smell, sound, or change in how the van drives before the battery pack problem becomes dangerous.
Who's affected?
Three model years are tied to the same hybrid battery pack assembly under the hybrid propulsion system.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Chrysler technician updates the high voltage battery pack control module software. The technician also inspects the battery pack assembly and replaces it if the inspection finds replacement is needed. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor. Until the repair is complete, do not charge the vehicle, and park outside and away from structures. If you already paid for the same battery pack condition, FCA US asks customers to send the original receipt or other proof of payment so the expense can be confirmed under its reimbursement process.
