Jeep is recalling 13 2021-2022 Cherokee vehicles under recall 24V516 because an improperly secured connector for the right-side curtain air bag can keep the air bag from deploying as intended. What's wrong?
The right-side curtain air bag on the 2021-2022 Jeep Cherokee is the air bag mounted along the roof rail above the side windows. In a side-impact or rollover-related crash, it is supposed to inflate between occupants and the glass, helping with side-impact protection and ejection mitigation. A body wiring harness connector carries the electrical signal that tells that curtain air bag to deploy.
On affected Cherokees, the issue is assembly, not a defective air bag part. The Side Airbag Inflatable Curtain connector was not fully engaged or was improperly secured on the right side. If that connector is loose or disconnected, the vehicle does not have a complete electrical path to the air bag, so the curtain air bag can fail to deploy as intended in a crash.
There is no warning sign before a crash-related failure. If the condition is present, an air bag warning light will illuminate.

What's the safety risk?
An air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury in a crash. There is no warning before the connector problem, but the airbag warning light illuminates when the condition is present. Schedule the recall repair soon and tell the dealer if the warning light is on. Repair is free at any franchised Jeep dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2021-2022 Jeep Cherokee is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Jeep dealer to confirm the right-side curtain air bag connector has been secured or to schedule the free repair.
- Bring the recall notice if Jeep mailed one. If not, reference recall number 24V516 when you call.
- Ask the dealer to document that the connector repair is complete, since the loose connector can keep the side curtain air bag from deploying as intended.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Jeep technician secures the connector for the right-side curtain air bag so the air bag can deploy as intended in a side impact or ejection mitigation event. The recall repair is free, and the filing says all vehicles have been remedied. If you already paid for this connector repair before the owner letter, FCA US's reimbursement policy covers documented expenses. Send the original receipt or other proof of payment to FCA US for confirmation.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 24V516?
Recall 24V516 covers 13 2021-2022 Jeep Cherokee vehicles with a right-side curtain air bag connector that was not secured properly. That connector can keep the air bag from deploying as intended in a crash, increasing injury risk. Jeep dealers secure the connector for free.
What should I do if my 2021-2022 Jeep Cherokee is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Cherokee is included in recall 24V516. If it is, contact a franchised Jeep dealer and reference recall 24V516 or FCA recall number 71B. The dealer secures the right-side curtain air bag connector for free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Jeep dealers secure the affected right-side curtain air bag connector free of charge. FCA also reported that all vehicles covered by this recall have been remedied.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is reduced side-impact crash protection. If the right-side curtain air bag connector is not secured, the air bag can fail to deploy as intended during a crash. That can increase the risk of injury for occupants.
What if I bought my Jeep Cherokee used?
The free recall repair follows the VIN, not the first owner. If you bought the Cherokee used and never received a recall letter, check your VIN to confirm whether this specific vehicle is included, then call a franchised Jeep dealer for the repair status.
