What's wrong?
The fuel tank assembly on the 2024 Colorado and Canyon holds gasoline and includes the fuel pump that sends fuel from the tank to the engine. A lock ring clamps the fuel pump module to the tank opening. When that ring is fully seated, it keeps the pump module tight against the tank seal.
On affected vehicles, the supplier machine that installs the lock ring was misaligned during production. That left the ring only partly engaged on some fuel tanks. The truck can run normally, but the fuel pump module is not secured the way it was designed to be secured. In a crash, that loose fit can allow fuel to leak from the tank assembly.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner should not expect a dashboard light, smell, or drivability change to show that the lock ring is only partly engaged.
Who's affected?
The Colorado and Canyon share the same fuel tank assembly in this recall, with fuel pump mounting plate and fuel tank assembly components identified separately.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
A fuel leak near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. If your VIN is included, schedule the dealer inspection soon and keep ignition sources away from the vehicle until the fuel tank lock ring is checked. Repair is free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2024 Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon is included in this recall.
- Contact your nearest franchised Chevrolet or GMC dealer to schedule the free fuel tank lock-ring inspection.
- Ask the dealer to inspect and fully lock the fuel tank lock ring, the repair that secures the fuel pump to the fuel tank and addresses the crash-related fuel leak risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Chevrolet or GMC mailed one. If not, reference recall number 24V491 when you call.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Chevrolet technician inspects the fuel tank lock ring that secures the fuel pump to the tank assembly. If the ring is not fully locked, the technician locks it into place. The inspection and any needed adjustment are free under the recall. Prior out-of-pocket work is handled through the existing warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the covered 2024 Colorado and Canyon vehicles are under warranty. Ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies to prior repair paperwork.
