Recall 24V433 covers 7,410 2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks for steering ball stud failure. Do not drive. Peterbilt dealer repair is free.
A broken ball stud can cause a complete loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before failure. Do not drive the truck, even for short trips, until the tie rod and drag link assemblies are inspected and replaced if needed. Ask the dealer about towing. Repair is free at any franchised Peterbilt dealer.
Peterbilt is recalling 7,410 2025 trucks, including 537, 548, 567, 589, and W990 models, because the tie rod or drag link assembly can contain an improperly heat-treated ball stud that breaks. Do not drive an included truck until a Peterbilt dealer completes the free repair; a broken ball stud can cause complete loss of steering control and increase crash risk.

What's wrong?
The tie rod and drag link are steering linkage parts on the affected 2025 Peterbilt trucks, including the listed 537, 548, 567, 589, Model 220, 520, 536, 579 and related models. These parts connect the steering gear and front axle components so the front wheels turn when the driver turns the steering wheel. A ball stud is the pivoting joint inside that linkage, and it has to be strong enough to carry steering loads.
On affected trucks, the tie rod or drag link assembly contains a ball stud that was not heat treated correctly. Heat treatment is the hardening process that gives the metal its required strength. The supplier mixed ball studs from an unvalidated heat treat process into normal production, so a suspect ball stud can break while the steering linkage is in use.
There is no warning sign before failure. PACCAR identified no driver symptom that reliably appears before the ball stud breaks.

What's the safety risk?
A broken ball stud can cause a complete loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before failure. What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2025 Peterbilt truck is included in this steering-linkage recall.
- Do not drive the truck until the dealer completes the tie-rod and drag-link repair.
- Arrange a tow if the truck has to be moved to the dealer; do not drive it there yourself.
- Contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer to schedule the free tie-rod and drag-link inspection and replacement that fixes the ball-stud break risk behind the steering-control loss.
- Bring the recall notice if you have it. If not, reference recall number 24V433 when you call.
What happens at the repair
Do not drive the truck until the recall repair is complete. At the dealer, a Peterbilt technician inspects the tie rod and drag link assemblies for the improperly heat-treated ball stud issue and replaces the affected assemblies as needed. The inspection, replacement parts, and labor are free under the recall. PACCAR used its general reimbursement plan for this campaign, so documented qualifying repairs paid before the recall notice can be submitted for review. Bring repair invoices, proof of payment, and any related service paperwork to the dealer or customer service contact.
