What's wrong?

The shift cable in the 2024 Porsche Cayman and Boxster connects the cabin shift lever to the PDK double clutch transmission. When the driver selects Park, that cable has to move the transmission into the park position and let the transmission lock the vehicle in place. A safety clip holds the cable at the transmission so that movement reaches the correct point.

On affected vehicles, that safety clip was not installed correctly during factory rework outside the normal assembly process. The cable sheath was also at risk of damage during that work. If the clip or cable does not hold its position, the shift lever can be placed in Park while the transmission does not lock in Park. That creates a rollaway risk after the driver believes the vehicle is parked.

There is no warning sign before failure. The shifter can appear to be in Park, and the problem is only exposed when the transmission fails to hold the vehicle still.

Who's affected?

Covers the Cayman and Boxster, both using the same PDK shift cable.

What's the safety risk?

If the transmission does not lock into park, the vehicle can roll away and increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before the parking fault. If your VIN is included, schedule the shift cable replacement soon. Repair is free at any franchised Porsche dealer.

Because Porsche used its general reimbursement plan on file, owners who already paid for this shift cable repair can ask Porsche customer service or the service desk how to submit repair documentation for review.
