What's wrong?
The rear door on these 2014-2020 Johnston VT652, VS651, VT651, VT801, VS652, VS802, and V65T sweeper machines is moved by a hydraulic cylinder. A steel pin holds that cylinder in place so the cylinder can lift, hold, and lower the rear door in a controlled way. When the pin stays intact, the door remains supported while the hydraulic system works.
On included machines, the coating on that pin does not protect it well enough from corrosion. Corrosion can make the pin seize in place, then crack or break as the rear door is used. If the pin breaks, the hydraulic cylinder no longer secures the rear door, and the rear door can fall.
There is no warning sign before failure. Treat unusual corrosion, binding, or damage around the rear door hardware as a reason to stop using the door and have the machine inspected.
Who's affected?
Spans 7 sweeper models across the 2014-2020 model years, all tied to the rear door cylinder pin.
