What's wrong?

The Suburban range in these 2023-2024 Heartland fifth wheels and travel trailers has LED lights behind the oven and range knobs. Those lights use a small circuit board that feeds power to the backlights, so the controls are easier to see when the stove area is in use. The board is supposed to stay sealed from residue and moisture around the cooktop.

On affected units, the circuit board did not receive enough conformal coating, which is the protective layer that seals electronics from contamination. Contamination can reach the board and make the LED backlight circuit fail. When that happens, the board can overheat and the knob lights can get hot enough to melt.

Owners can notice the red lights around the knobs becoming warm or showing signs of melting. The lights can also turn red by themselves, even when the owner did not switch them on.

What's the safety risk?

An overheating circuit board increases the risk of a fire. If the red lights feel warm, show melting, or turn on by themselves, stop using the lights and schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Heartland dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2023-2024 Heartland Prowler, South Fork, Sundance, Mallard, Big Country, Elkridge, Bighorn, Trail Runner, Eddie Bauer, Corterra, Gravity, Pioneer, Torque, Lithium, Fuel, Milestone, or North Trail is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Heartland dealer to schedule the free repair for the cooktop range LED backlight circuit board that can overheat.
  3. Schedule the wiring repair that disconnects and cuts power to the LED backlights and terminates the wiring.
  4. Bring the owner letter if Heartland mailed one. If not, reference recall number 24V236 when you call.
  5. Avoid using the cooktop range until the repair is complete.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Heartland technician disconnects and cuts the circuit that powers the cooktop range LED backlights, then terminates the wiring so the backlight circuit board no longer receives power. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. Heartland says reimbursements are handled under its general reimbursement plan at no cost to the owner. If you paid out of pocket for this LED backlight circuit repair before the recall work, bring your repair paperwork and payment records to the service desk or contact Heartland customer service to start the claim.
