What's wrong?
The headlamp assembly on the 2020 Kia Telluride holds the halogen bulb, reflector, and internal shield that changes the beam pattern. In normal use, that shield gear moves so the lamp can provide high-beam lighting when the driver selects it. The high beam is the brighter forward light used for dark roads without oncoming traffic.
In affected Tellurides under recall 24V148, heat from the halogen bulb damages the shield gear mechanism inside the headlamp assembly. When that gear is damaged, the shield no longer moves correctly. The result is an inoperable high beam on the left or right side, even though the rest of the headlamp assembly appears normal.
Owners can notice reduced high-beam visibility from either side of the vehicle. If one side does not brighten when high beams are selected, that is the warning sign described for this recall.

What's the safety risk?
An inoperable high beam reduces visibility and increases the risk of a crash. If one side of the road looks dimmer than usual with high beams on, use extra caution at night and schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Kia dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2020 Kia Telluride is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Kia dealer to schedule the free high-beam headlight inspection and repair or replacement that fixes the headlight failure.
- Bring the recall notice if Kia mailed one, or reference recall number 24V148 and Kia recall SC299 when you call.
- Avoid relying on high beams until the repair is complete; reduce speed or postpone night driving when visibility is poor.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Kia technician inspects the high beam headlights and repairs or replaces the affected headlight parts as needed. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Kia's general reimbursement plan covers repair expenses owners already incurred for this issue before the recall repair was performed. If you paid for a related high beam headlight repair, keep the repair order and payment documentation for the reimbursement claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 24V148?
Recall 24V148 covers 35,031 2020 Kia Telluride vehicles with high beam headlights that can fail. Inoperable high beams reduce visibility and increase crash risk. Kia dealers will inspect the headlights and repair or replace them for free.
What should I do if my 2020 Kia Telluride is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Telluride is included in recall 24V148. If it is, contact a franchised Kia dealer to schedule the high beam headlight inspection and repair. Reference recall number 24V148 or Kia recall SC299 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Kia will inspect, repair, or replace the high beam headlights free of charge at a franchised Kia dealer.
Is it safe to drive my 2020 Kia Telluride?
The recall does not include a do-not-drive instruction. The safety risk is reduced visibility if the high beam headlights stop working, which increases crash risk. If your high beams are not working, limit night driving and schedule the free dealer repair.
What if I bought my Kia Telluride used?
The free recall repair still applies. Safety recalls follow the vehicle, not the original owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your Telluride is included, then call a franchised Kia dealer and reference recall 24V148 or Kia recall SC299.
