What's wrong?
The pin box on a 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, or 2023 Prime Time Sanibel is the steel hitch structure at the front of the fifth wheel. It connects the trailer to the tow vehicle and carries the trailer's hitch load during towing, braking, and turning. The part has to match the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating, or GVWR, which is the maximum loaded weight printed on the federal placard.
On affected Sanibel fifth wheels, the installed 15,500 pin box is rated below the trailer's printed GVWR. Forest River traced the issue to an engineering error, not normal wear. Because the hitch part is not rated high enough for the load assigned to the trailer, the pin box can deform and fail under towing stress. The replacement component is an 18,000 pin box.
An owner or operator can notice the pin box beginning to bend, twist, or deform before failure. If you see movement, cracking, or shape changes around the hitch area, stop towing and contact a Prime Time dealer.
Who's affected?
The included Sanibel model years are not continuous, and VINs have been searchable since March 27, 2024.

What's the safety risk?
Hitch failure increases the risk of a crash. The under-rated pin box can deform before failure, so treat bending or distortion as a reason to stop towing and call the dealer before moving the trailer again. Repair is free at any franchised Prime Time dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, or 2023 Prime Time Sanibel is included in this recall.
- Contact your nearest franchised Prime Time dealer to schedule the free properly rated hitch installation.
- Bring the owner letter if you have it. If not, reference recall number 24V116 when you call.
- Ask the dealer whether the fifth wheel is safe to tow before the repair, especially if it is loaded near GVWR.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Prime Time technician installs a properly rated hitch, also called the pin box, so the fifth wheel has the correct recall part. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. If you already paid for a hitch repair related to this defect, the vehicle still needs the recall inspection or repair so the correct parts and procedures are confirmed. For reimbursement, send the service invoice to Prime Time Forest River's warranty manager for review.
