Recall 24V102 affects 113,320 2023-2024 Ford Transit vans for low rear axle lubricant. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 113,320 2023-2024 Transit vans because low rear axle lubricant can damage or seize the rear axle tail bearing. The failure can lock a wheel or separate the driveshaft, which can lead to loss of drive power or rollaway in park without the parking brake, and Ford dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The rear axle assembly on a 2023-2024 Ford Transit sends engine power to the rear wheels and supports the wheel ends through bearings. Inside the axle, lubricant coats the gears and bearings so metal surfaces do not run dry, overheat, or grind against each other under load.
On affected Transit vans, the revised rear axle design left the axle with too little lubricant. That lower fluid level can starve the tail bearing, which is the bearing near the back of the axle where the driveline load passes through. As the bearing runs with inadequate lubrication, it can heat up, wear, and seize. If that happens, the rear wheels can lock or the driveshaft can separate.
Owners can see rear axle fluid leaking while the van is parked. While driving, the warning signs are grinding noise and vibration from the rear axle.
Who's affected?
The scope covers Transit vans from the 2023 and 2024 model years equipped with the 4.10 limited slip differential single rear wheel axle assembly.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific van is included.
What's the safety risk?
Wheel lockup or driveshaft separation can cause loss of drive power. If the driveshaft disconnects, the Transit can roll away while parked when the parking brake is not applied. Watch for rear axle fluid leaks, grinding noise, or vibration, and schedule the inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician inspects the rear axle for damage from low lubricant and replaces the axle bearings or the axle assembly as needed. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor. Ford's standard reimbursement plan covers eligible owner-paid remedy costs before the recall notice. The plan listed May 2023 as the prior reimbursement plan date and March 15, 2024 as the ending date for reimbursement eligibility. Bring repair invoices and payment records to Ford customer service or the dealer service desk when you ask about a claim.
