That loss can make the RV harder to steer and increase crash risk; Spartan dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The steering gear on the 2023-2025 Spartan K2, K3, and K4 chassis is part of the independent front suspension steering system. It turns steering-wheel input into movement at the front wheels, while power steering assist reduces the effort needed to turn a large RV chassis. The gear has to move cleanly and keep hydraulic pressure where it belongs.
On affected chassis, foreign material can get inside the steering gear. Shyft traced the issue to the sector shaft, a rotating part inside the gear, contacting an inspection camera ring during assembly. That contact can chip plastic from the ring and leave material inside the gear. The debris can build pressure in the steering system and cause a loss of power steering assist, especially when steering to the right.
There is no warning sign before failure. If the assist drops out, the steering wheel will take more effort to turn, and the change can happen suddenly.

What's the safety risk?

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Spartan technician removes the steering gear and installs a replacement steering gear. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. Out-of-pocket repairs already paid are handled through the existing warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the affected chassis are within the warranty period and warranty claims were honored without charge to the owner. Ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
