What's wrong?
The steerable auxiliary lift axle on the 2024 Mack Granite (Gr) uses Hendrickson Composilite EXS20 and SC20 steering knuckle assemblies. A steering knuckle holds the wheel end in position, while the bearing journal gives the wheel hub bearings a smooth, fixed surface to ride on as the wheel turns and steers.
On affected trucks, the bearing journals were not fully seated into the backbones of the left and right steering knuckle assemblies during manufacture. Hendrickson traced the problem to excessive wear on the tooling that installed the journal rings, plus quality measurements that did not catch the short seating. If the journal is not seated all the way, the wheel end hub assembly is not installed against the correct support surface.
The warning sign is oil lubricant leaking from the wheel end hub assemblies. If you see oil around the hub area, tell the Mack dealer the recall involves the Hendrickson Composilite steering knuckle bearing journals.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mack technician inspects the steering knuckle assembly and replaces it if the bearing journals are not fully seated or the wheel end hub assembly cannot be installed correctly. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Mack uses its general reimbursement plan for this campaign. If you already paid for a related steering knuckle or wheel end hub repair, bring repair paperwork and proof of payment to the service desk so the claim can be reviewed under that plan.
