What's wrong?
The steering arm and knuckle arm on the 2021-2022 Terberg Benschop B.V. Terminal Tractor are the hard metal links that transfer steering movement to the front axle. When the driver turns the wheel, these arms help move the front wheels in the commanded direction. The mounting surfaces have to stay clean and tight so the bolts keep the linkage clamped in place.
On affected terminal tractors, paint was left on the mounting surface before the steering arms were assembled to the front axle. That paint can wear away or crush under load. As the painted layer disappears, the joint loses clamping force, and the bolt can loosen or break. If that happens, the steering linkage no longer holds the wheel position, resulting in a loss of steering control.
The warning sign is a swaying feeling in the steering wheel. The vehicle can also start swaying while the steering wheel is held still.
