2019-2023 Eldorado Axess/Ezr Recall 23V811: Driveshaft

Recall 23V811 affects 443 2019-2023 Eldorado Axess and Ezr buses for loose transmission yoke bolts. Repair will be free at a franchised Eldorado dealer once available.

Eldorado is recalling 443 2019-2023 Axess and Ezr buses under recall 23V811 because the transmission yoke can separate, causing driveshaft separation and sudden loss of drive power. That loss of power can increase crash risk, and a disabled bus can force passenger evacuation in uncontrolled traffic; the dealer repair will be free once Eldorado opens it.

What's wrong?

The B400R transmission on 2019-2023 Eldorado Axess and Ezr vehicles sends engine power through the driveline to move the bus. At the back of that transmission, the output yoke connects the transmission to the driveshaft, the rotating shaft that carries power toward the drive axle. That connection depends on the yoke bolt staying tightened to specification.

On affected vehicles, the output yoke bolt was not torqued correctly before the transmission was supplied to Eldorado. If that bolt loosens, the transmission yoke can separate from the transmission output. Once the yoke separates, the driveshaft can separate too, which can cause a sudden loss of drive power.

There is no warning sign before failure. An operator should not count on noise, vibration, or a dashboard message to appear before the driveline connection lets go.

Who's affected?

Axess and Ezr buses share the same B400R transmission driveline named in this recall across the 2019-2023 model years.

Field incidentsNHTSA has logged no field incidents to date.

A matching year and model does not confirm inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific bus.

What's the safety risk?

A sudden loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. If the bus is disabled in traffic, passengers can face added injury risk during evacuation. There is no warning sign before loss of drive power, so schedule the recall inspection soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Eldorado dealer once available.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2019-2023 Eldorado Axess or Ezr is included in this recall.
  2. Review the owner letter Eldorado mailed on February 08, 2024, before scheduling service.
  3. Call Eldorado customer service at 1-951-684-6868 with questions and reference recall number 23V811 when you call.
  4. Ask a franchised Eldorado dealer about the free transmission-yoke-bolt inspection and tightening that helps prevent driveshaft separation and sudden loss of drive power.
  5. Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Move the bus out of traffic before unloading passengers if drive power is lost.

What happens at the repair

Once the final dealer repair is available, an Eldorado technician will inspect the transmission yoke bolts with Allison Transmission and tighten any loose bolts. The final dealer repair will be free once it opens. Eldorado also has a general reimbursement plan on file for eligible out-of-pocket repairs paid before the recall notice. If you already paid for related transmission yoke or driveshaft work, ask Eldorado customer service how to submit documentation under that plan.
