Recall 23V754 affects 4,701 2023-2024 Subaru Forester, Wrx, Impreza, and Crosstrek vehicles for cracking front driveshafts. Repair is free at any franchised Subaru dealer.
Subaru is recalling 4,701 2023-2024 Forester, Wrx, Impreza, and Crosstrek vehicles because cracks can form in the front driveshaft assemblies' outer races and the driveshaft can break. A broken driveshaft can cause loss of drive power or rollaway in park without the parking brake engaged, and Subaru dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The front driveshaft assembly on affected 2023-2024 Subaru Forester, Wrx, Impreza, and Crosstrek vehicles sends engine power from the transmission to the front wheels. Inside that assembly, the outer race is a hardened metal track that lets the joint move as the suspension and steering change angle. It has to stay smooth and intact so the shaft can turn without binding.
On these vehicles, the supplier's heat-treatment process did not cool the inner surface of the outer race correctly after a water pipe problem reduced cooling water flow. That improper cooling created quench cracks on the outer surface of the race. A cracked race can break, which can interrupt the front driveshaft assembly's normal job of carrying power to the wheel.
Subaru reported no warning sign for an owner before this failure. There is no warning sign before failure.

What's the safety risk?
A broken driveshaft can cut drive power while driving or let the vehicle roll away in park if the parking brake is not engaged. Either condition increases the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before failure, so use the parking brake every time and schedule the inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Subaru dealer.
What should I do?

- Contact a franchised Subaru dealer to schedule the free front driveshaft inspection and replacement that fixes driveshafts that can crack and break.
- Bring the recall notice if you received one, or reference recall number 23V754 when you call.
- Set the parking brake every time you park until the repair is complete.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, since a broken driveshaft can cause loss of drive power or rollaway.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Subaru technician inspects the left and right front driveshafts and replaces either front driveshaft that needs replacement. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Subaru's standard reimbursement plan covers eligible out-of-pocket repairs paid before the recall notice. If you already paid for a related front driveshaft repair, ask Subaru customer service or the dealer service desk how to submit documentation under that plan.
