What's wrong?
The starter and alternator wiring harness on the 2022-2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL55 and AMG SL63 carries electrical power between the busbar, the 12V starter, and the alternator. The starter helps turn the engine on, and the alternator helps keep the electrical system supplied while the engine runs. That harness has to stay clipped in the correct route so it does not touch moving parts.
On included vehicles, an insufficiently secured clip leaves the harness routed out of position. The harness can rub against the drive shaft, wearing through insulation and damaging the wiring. Once the wiring is damaged, the circuit can short, the vehicle can lose drive power, or the harness can overheat.
There is no warning sign before failure. The Mercedes-Benz filing says the driver will not receive a warning because of the nature of the failure, so the first noticeable problem can be loss of propulsion or signs of an electrical short.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
A loose starter and alternator wiring harness can cut drive power, increasing crash risk, and overheating in that harness can increase fire risk. There is no warning sign before the failure, so schedule the recall repair soon and treat any loss of power as a reason to stop in a safe place and call the dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Mercedes-Benz technician secures the electrical wiring harness for the starter and alternator so it is held in the correct position. The recall repair is available now, and parts and labor are covered. Repairs already paid for are handled through the new vehicle warranty, not through a separate reimbursement program, because the involved vehicles remained under warranty and had not previously been subject to this condition. Ask the service desk how warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
